ADHD coaching is a practical intervention that specifically targets the core impairments of ADHD such as time management habits, goal directed behavior, organization and sustained problem solving.
Anger is a common emotion that can useful when it is channeled in healthy ways. It can motivate you to address and solve interpersonal problems. When managed correctly and expressed appropriately, anger can be an important emotional feedback process for psychological health. But anger has a downside- perhaps more than any other emotion- it can leave a trail of carnage when it is not expressed in a healthy fashion.
Anxiety disorders affect all aspects of a person’s life. The symptoms for each type of anxiety disorder are different. Effective treatment needs to target anxiety symptoms based on an individualized plan. I offer research-based treatment grounded in the principles of cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), neuroscience and mindfulness training. This approach gives you a fresh perspective for going forward and a solid set of tools you can use to feel less anxiety.
Therapy supports children and adolescents in many ways. Therapy provides children a neutral and safe place to share their feelings, concerns, problems, and fears. Through therapy children learn to understand their feelings, find new solutions to their problems and concerns, and develop tools to help them manage their difficulties.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a form of psychotherapy that has been shown to be extremely effective in helping my clients deal with anxiety and depression. CBT is a habit changing therapy that helps to challenge negative, depressed and anxious intuitions and thoughts. CBT is normally considered a short term therapy, which typically involves coming to therapy once per week. It focuses on behavior and thinking patterns and helps clients make sense of their emotional-cognitive style so they can effectively minimize the stressors that cause their anxiety.
Depression is a complex, diverse illness, with different antecedent causes and manifestations. However, a remarkable theory for depression has emerged from recent studies. This theory shows that depression occurs when genetics, environment or stress causes a lack of nerve cell growth in the brain. In the non depressed brain, circuits of nerve cells send signals to regulate mood. A brain hub then integrates these signals and relays them to the more conscious parts of the brain, thereby allowing us to register our own moods or act on them.
Working through your personal struggles and challenges may be very difficult and require much courage and strength, however, the growth, change, and meaning achieved are worthy of your efforts. Therapy provides a safe environment for you to share your thoughts and feelings without the risk of being judged. Individual therapy helps you find a deeper sense of meaning, purpose, zest, and creativity in life.
A big part of substance-abuse counseling is about learning from consequences and developing risk avoidance. With substance abuse, it is not the damage to the body, it's the damage to your life. Substance abuse interferes with the process of learning, attention and goal directed behavior.
